If I made a level 80 boosted, and wanted to then spend my gems on unlocking an elite class immediately, I now can. Whether that was gems with gold or swiped - My pay to boost level 80 character with paid max skill points is completely identical to anyone else's level 80 with max skill points. Unfortunately it is a noob trap.

You only need 60 hero points to begin using your elite spec, the points you spend after that continue to unlock more skills, traits, skins, etc. Again, hero challenges are worth 10 points each in the jungle. So no you don’t need to go do 200-400 jungle challenges.

Leveling up will now reward Hero Points where it previously rewarded Skill Points. Once level 80, filling up the skill bar no longer yields Skill Points (or Hero Points). Skill challenges will now reward Hero Points (and will be renamed Hero Challenges). Hero Points will be spent to unlock skills, traits, and Elite Specializations. Conversion

Look at the points made about p2w mmos or heavily scrutinized changes in other mmos and chances are that if gw2 does have that mechanic it's monetized. Heck Anet even outlawed build/gear templates so they can replace it with their own kitten version where you have to buy individual slots for everything on every single character. Most hero points can be obtained without additional requirements, but several are locked behind specific masteries, which you can't get without completing the first story mission of the corresponding expansion. That said, you should easily be able to accrue enough points to unlock one or even two elite specs. Metallis.
By the time you hit level 80. You will have enough hero points to unlock everything available. So for now just put points into things that seem interesting/fun to you. You'll get it all once you hit 80. I should mention you wont have enough hero points to unlock your elite spec right when you hit 80 if you have heart of thorns.
cost and unlock order for skills and traits in the. Short Bow Proficiency. Guardian Warrior Elementalist Necromancer. Firebrand. Beastmastery. Traits • Training. Specializations. Deadly Arts • Critical Strikes • Shadow Arts • Acrobatics • Trickery Daredevil • Deadeye • Specter. Elementalist.
As for raids, you'll want to join a guild or find a discord group that does training runs for newbies, once you think you're up to the challenge. They'll accommodate you if you feel anxious and you need not worry as they'll teach you the ins and outs. A side note: GW2 really wasn't balanced for PvP. Well, first, the point requirement was reduced a long time ago. You only need 250 hero points to unlock everything in your elite spec. That mean, assuming you've done zero world completion on your character and only got them to level 80, you'll need 25 hero points, since each challenge in Magus Falls gives you 10.
Elite specs only become unlockable at level 80. Leveling to 80 alone gives you enough points to fully unlock the core guardian class. Therefore any hero points you spend in the meantime, that you got from doing hero point challenges in the world, are essentially “refunded” by the time you reach level 80.
@rng.1024 said:Just do hero points. Preferably on PoF maps (more points per challenge). How fast they will accumulate depends on: Effectiveness of your build; Gear (damage) Map travel (super fast with mounts) My estimate is it can be done well within the hour, as all PoF maps are open from the getgo.
Yeah, it's a little much. Perhaps they'll introduce some other ways to gain hero points (via LS3, open world, something) - it's a little out of character to have to do ~80% (per u/tertle's math) of the skill challenges of the current open world simply to gain access to a trait line.
80 Chak Hollow: None Exalted Overlook: 80 Tarir, the Forgotten City Glider Basics: Champion Tarnished Sage: 80 Tarir, the Forgotten City: None Mordrem Flower: 80 Eastwatch Bluff Bouncing Mushrooms: Notice to Trespassers: 80 Eastwatch Bluff: None Suspicious Orichalcum: 80 Arrowhead Vale: None Toxin-Cured Hog: 80 Westwatch Patch: None Young The other way to get hero points is from the open world hero points in the expansion maps that are worth 10 points each; a far more efficient way to get points. So really you don't have much of a choice when it comes to avoiding exploring the open world while maxing your specs. My only suggestion might be to follow a hero point train. jDT2.
